Two important Indian Navy’s deployments are taking place, as of today the 2nd of October 2025.

First being the port call by stealth frigate INS Trikand, at Taranto, Italy that is actually a part of a key ongoing operational deployment to the Mediterranean Sea.

And second warship movement is the Navy’s highly specialised hydrographic survey vessel INS Sutlej now docked at Port Louis in Mauritius.

Stealth frigate INS Trikand’s crew engaged in professional exchanges and cross-deck visits. These interactions focused on sharing best practices and enhancing mutual interoperability between the two navies.

Captain Sachin Kulkarni, Commanding Officer of INS Trikand, paid a courtesy call on Rear Admiral Andrea Petroni, Commander of the Italian Navy’s Second Naval Division.

The Navy’s spokesperson stated that this port call underscores the importance attached by India to its relations with Italy and reflects the shared commitment of both nations to strengthening their growing defence cooperation and maritime partnership.

INS Sutlej is a specialised hydrographic survey vessel of the Indian Navy.

It is now undertaking an 18th Joint Hydrographic Survey with Mauritius.

This mission is being conducted under the framework of long standing bilateral MoU on Hydrography signed during the 14th Joint Committee Meeting on Hydrography held earlier this year.

The current survey mission will cover an extensive area of approx 35,000 square nautical miles.

As part of capacity-building efforts, officers from various Mauritian ministries will embark onboard to receive hands-on training in hydrographic data collection and processing.

Deployment of INS Sutlej to Mauritius stands as reaffirmation of shared commitment of both nations towards advanced scientific collaboration and strategic maritime ties. It reflects deep-rooted maritime cooperation, aimed at enhancing navigational safety, sustainable management of ocean resources, and regional collaboration in the Indian Ocean Region.
